Energy Conservation

Energy Conservation

3 Counties Heating are committed to using energy efficiently and installing energy efficient Central Heating systems where ever possible.

Whenever fossil fuels are burnt they produce carbon dioxide (C02). This gas is a major cause of the greenhouse effect, which damages the ozone layer and results in global warming.

Energy conservation

The energy used in homes is responsible for more than a quarter of the UK's carbon emissions, and 80% of this is for heating and hot water. Turning down your thermostat, good insulation and more efficient boilers can help tackle the effects of global warming, reduce local air pollution, cut fuel bills and can add value to your home.

Condensing boilers are a suitable option to help with the environment as a condensing gas boiler has a seasonal efficiency of around 88%, compared to a modern non-condensing boiler at about 75%, and an older type boiler at 55-60%.

You can cut out a surprising amount of wasted energy with clever use of your central heating controls. These can include:

  • thermostats for heating and hot water;
  • radiator valves with thermostats included;
  • electronic timers.

Energy conservation is very important to us and we aim to install energy efficient central heating systems to help the environment and save you money on your heating bills. Our engineers always talk you through using the controls correctly and efficiently and we can help you decide on the most energy efficient system to suit your requirements, including discussing the practicalities of switching to solar panel heating.

Grants

A number of grants and offers are available to householders to encourage them to have energy-saving measures in their homes.

Most of these grants and offers are available from three sources:

1) Government grants

The UK Government funds schemes across the UK, providing grants of up to £2,700 to households on certain benefits to improve their heating and energy efficiency (please note that grant levels vary).

2) Energy suppliers

The Government's Energy Efficiency Commitment (EEC) means the larger energy suppliers are obliged to help achieve targets for improving domestic energy efficiency.
Suppliers must encourage and assist their customers to make energy savings, through installing measures such as cavity wall and loft insulation and energy efficient boilers, appliances and light bulbs.

3) Local authorities

Local authorities (councils) provide grants and offers for local residents to install energy efficiency measures in their home.
